If you have any interest in learning French or in the French heritage and culture, one of your best Austin resources is Alliance Française. They are a local non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage the study and appreciation of French language and culture in the Austin Area. They are part of the Alliance Française network that was founded in Paris in 1883, and there are more than 800 chapters around the world. They offer excellent classes for adults and children of all levels as well as private lessons and monthly social events like screening of French Films, conversation groups and French book club discussions.

One of our favorite events held by Alliance Française are the monthly Pétanque matches. Pétanque is a lawn bowling game much like Bocce Ball. Alliance Française does the games as a potluck party. They bring the equipment, and you bring a dish to share. There is no charge to participate and it is a family friendly event.

Their next Pétanque match is Sunday April 14th, 2019 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at the Browning Hangar at Mueller. It’s a great way to have some fun, meet people, and get a little taste of French culture in a low key, friendly environment.
