Today we would like to introduce you to one of our favorite new French pastry spots in Austin. True French pastry is something that is incredibly difficult to get right. It is a combination of crisp crackling outer layers and moist delicate inner layers, not too sweet but infinitely flavorful. This bakery really gets it right particularly in their Kouign Amann (shown on the left) and their Pain au Chocolat (not pictured).Read More
Today we have our favorite quiche recipe for you. Quiche is a staple food in France, and is truly one of the healthiest, easiest, least expensive, and most delicious things that you can learn to cook. The classic Quiche Lorraine with its savory touch of bacon is a particular favorite of ours. Rich, creamy and delicious, it makes a wonderful dish for any meal of the day.Read More
We originally had a different French Friday planned for today, but then we found a "new to us" place in Austin that was so wonderful that we knew that we had to immediately tell you about it. Paris in a Bite is an exquisite little café over in Davenport Village in Westlake run by a wold-traveling French couple. It is an wonderful feast for both the palette and the senses.
Their menu is fairly large for a small cafe, and contains a nice selection of savory dishes as well as a comprehensive selection of pastries (The best we have found in Austin), macarons (hand-made and perfect), and swiss chocolates (which we are looking forward to trying next time). They also have an extensive selection of imported wines and treats for purchase. The quiche Lorraine we had for lunch was perfectly cooked, and a wonderful balance of flavors.
We spent an hour or so having a late lunch and working on costume drawings for Cyrano and it was a lovely, bright, warm working environment. We hope that you will have a chance to visit them yourselves. https://parisinabite.com
One of our favorite events held by Alliance Française are the monthly Pétanque matches. Pétanque is a lawn bowling game much like Bocce Ball. Alliance Française does the games as a potluck party. They bring the equipment, and you bring a dish to share. There is no charge to participate and it is a family friendly event.Read More
Today we have the pleasure of introducing our castmate Michael Rodriguez. Michael will be playing Cyrano’s best friend Le Bret in our upcoming “Cyrano de Bergerac” in September. Michael was completely stunning in auditions because he came in with all of the audition sides memorized. For Director/Translator Jennifer Rose Davis, this was the first time that she had heard her work truly performed, and the experience was deeply moving. Michael brings a depth and kindness to both his on-stage and off-stage interactions that is a true joy to work with.
Michael graduated from of the University of Tampa double majoring in Film and English Literature. His parents are very kind to have allowed this. He's appeared in a handful of plays around Austin including City Theatre's production of “Playhouse Creatures,” Sam Bass Theatre's “Inga Binga & Flaming Idiots,”Bottle Alley Theatre's “Wraith Radio,” and Mercurial Theatre's “The Colour Out of Space &Call of Cthulhu.” He recently co-produced and performed in a feature film with Thirty Thousand Feet Productions titled Austin Weird that he highly recommends you check out.
